Episode 171: The Ballad of Thomas Riker

What happens when transporter accidents don't kill you? Aaron and David are here to recount the ballad of Thomas Riker. Some fates are worse than death, like being stuck alone for 8 years to find out that you actually did make it out. You could also be pining for a woman for 8 years just to find out she only wants to be friends. Or you could steal the most advanced federation warship and then turn yourself over to the Cardassians to work the rest of your days in a labor camp. You could also be promised a daring rescue by a woman who forgets about you when she falls in love with a changeling. The Ballad of Thomas Riker is one paved with much sorrow and regret! But before we jump into Star Trek The Next Generation episode “Second Chances” and the DS9 episode “Defiant” we have some more exciting star trek news to talk about! You may wipe the sweat from your brow no animated series episode today! Pour yourself a double of whatever you are drinking, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 170: The Practical Joker and Emails

Aaron and David discuss the Star Trek animated series episode “The Practical Joker”. This week we also received two new emails and we read and answer both after the recap and discussion of “The Practical Joker.” But before we get to “The Practical Joker”  we discuss the Star Trek Discovery news that the showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have been fired by CBS and are now longer working on Star Trek Discovery. Alex Kurtzman will be taking over as showrunner so Aaron and I also discuss our thoughts on that as well. Did you ever think the USS Enterprise could or would have a sense of humor? It’s not something I have ever thought about but apparently some people did back in the 70s and this is how we got The Practical Joker! Also if you tweet be sure to twitter bomb Star Trek and Star Trek Discovery to #BringBackSybok and #WhereIsSybok. I recommend you pour yourself something strong. It’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 169: Hope and Fear

Holly Michelle is back joining David and Aaron on a discussion of the Star Trek Voyager season four finale “Hope and Fear”! This week there isn’t much news but we do have a long listener email that we do read and respond to this episode. This episode is one of the few Star Trek season finales that aren't set up to be a mid season cliffhanger. In “Hope and Fear” Ray Wise guest stars as Arturis an alien who claims to be a walking universal translator. Arturis helps decode a transmission from Starfleet that leads the Voyager crew to a ship the USS Dauntless. The USS Dauntless is equipped with a slipstream drive to get Voyager home in just three months! Is Arturis really a nice guy, is this just too good to be true? You might want to slipstream some booze in to your coffee to find this out, on your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 168: Dixon Hill

This week Aaron and David discuss the comings and goings of Picard’s favorite Holodeck character Dixon Hill! We were surprised to only find four times where Picard steps into the role of Dixon Hill. The first and most substantial appearance of the character was in The Next Generation season one episode “The Big Goodbye”. Dixon Hill also shows up in the season two episode “Manhunt” the season four episode “Clues” and probably makes the most memorable appearance in the film Star Trek First Contact. Dixon Hill is a fun character to see Picard play and he is so memorable we could of swore he came up in TNG more often. Be sure to put your drinks on Dixon’s tab at Rex’s Bar, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek.
